Permit
Application
When traveling overseas, you should carry
an International Driving Permit... even if you're not planning
to drive. This recognizable form of identification can help you
communicate with foreign authorities and get you on your way
more quickly. Required by law in some countries, the International Driving Permit is valid
in more than 150 countries, and contains your name, photo and
driver information translated into 10 languages. The permit can
be used for one year from date of issue and must be accompanied
by a valid U.S. driver's license at all times. Drivers must be
18 years old to apply. When the permit expires a new permit must
be issued, there are no renewals.
Before you travel the world, travel to select AAA Service Centers for the International Driving Permit. Bring your valid U.S. driver's license, $15, and
two ORIGINAL passport-size photos (also available at most AAA
Service Centers; $6 members,
$8 non-members).
To save time, we suggest you fill out our International Driving
Permit application in advance. Simply print out the application,
fill in the information requested and bring it with you to
your local AAA Service
Center. To apply by mail, send your completed application
form, two ORIGINAL passport-size photos, a $15 permit fee and
a photocopy of your driver's license (front & back) to
the AAA Service Center
nearest you.
