Whenever I get to test drive a Honda, I immediately feel right at home in the vehicle. I drove a Honda Accord for 12 years, and while there are many improvements and additions that my old car didn′t have, the new Honda models stay true to their roots. This is the 32nd year for the Accord, and it′s the second-best selling car in the U.S. behind the Toyota Camry. The 2008 Honda Accord 4DR EX, simply put, will get you and your family where you need to go. The 4-cylinder engine is quiet and efficient. Sure, you won′t get a lot of power when you put your foot down on the accelerator, and you probably won′t get the urge to get it go if you find yourself on a back country road. But remember, this is a family car that is known for its dependability, not its sprinting ability. My horse, Calli, notes that the 14 cubic feet of trunk space is big enough to haul a couple of saddles, bridles, blankets, grooming equipment and everything else needed for a week of competing at a horse show. Safety equipment is standard on the Accord with six airbags, including side-impact airbags for the front seats as well as side curtain air bags, active front head restraints, electronic stability control, and tire pressure monitors. The Accord gets five out of five stars in frontal crash tests for both front seats. Admittedly, the styling on the 2008 Accord is rather bland and generic. You won′t be turning a lot of heads when you pull up to your kid′s soccer game. But it does feel roomy inside, with plenty of space in the backseat for even tall adult passengers. The EX Sedan adds some goodies to Honda′s LX models, including power moonroof, heated mirrors, an interface dial with scrolling, and an in-dash CD changer. EPA mileage estimates are 21 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. The Accord 4DR EX has an MSRP of $23,860. Add in destination and handling and the model I tested was $24,495. The Accord EX will appeal to aficionados of Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Malibu, Ford Fusion and Nissan Altima. If you′re looking for a reliable and economical midsize family sedan that gets pretty darn good gas mileage, give the Honda Accord EX a spin.
